I tried it on both windows and ubuntu and it was fine. Got a cheapie intel cpu (G530?) from MacMall of all places, via Ebay for $45.

Update: I called in the morning early of. this is something they (godaddy) is doing for security purposes to try and prevent various types of attacks on their servers which we godaddy customers should appreciate, even if troublesome.
